Hello

Hello Dear Recruiter/Interviewer,

it is nice to meet you!

This is a special (non-public) page that I’ve created to make your job easier.

Who am I?

I’m Filip and I’m a mobile software engineer with 8+ years of total experience. I actually started to build Android apps as a student back in 2013, so technically it’s over 10 years, but I’m not counting it entirely since I wasn’t working commercially back then.

I’m Polish 🇵🇱 and I live in Spain 🇪🇸.

What are you doing here?

Efficency & easier communication. I want to save yours and my time by answering to the most common questions before we schedule the next step of the interview.

My Tech Stack

  • Android - Kotlin, Java, Android & iOS - Flutter/Dart, SwiftUI/Swift
  • Jetpack Compose, XML
  • Hilt, Dagger
  • Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, RxJava
  • CI/CD: GitHub Actions, CircleCI, Fastlane

My professional experience

I’ve been passionate about the mobile world essentially since it became a thing, but I’ve started to actively pursue it as my career of choice during the 3rd year of my studies (in 2013). I thought it was amazing that I could build an app and then “carry” it everywhere with me in my pocket. I saw then, that mobile IS the future. And I wasn’t wrong.

I’m a self-taught Android developer. I started with building my own apps. My very first app (in 2013) was built with a friend and was called Joker. A simple app with 500 jokes in the Polish language. It reached over 10k downloads.

Then, throughout the years, I kept building different app ideas hoping to turn them into successful bootstrapped startups. This never happened, although I’ve learned a lot. Quite often my work involved not only coding, but also recruiting, managing, marketing etc. More about my projects: Everyday Selfie, Citify, Bahatti, Tryptyk, Meritum, Wishpy, Fly.

In 2016 I joined Qpony where I helped develop their main app called Qpony and Blix, the biggest leaflet app in Poland with over 5 million downloads. After a year I felt that I needed a new challenge so I took a short break to try to launch a new product called Meritum. Once again I organized the whole team (backend, designer, iOS) and lead the marketing campaing. We had a successful launch and our users loved it, but in the end we encountered a chicken and egg problem and decided to kill the project.

Soon after, in 2017 I joined Aterian where I helped develop their mobile game and IoT project. After 6 months they’ve discontinued it and I left the company. A group of people left Aterian as well and they decided to create a home security company called Kangaroo. I was invited to join them and I became a part of the funding team. During my nearly 3.5 years at Kangaroo, I was instrumental in building the company’s flagship mobile app from scratch. This involved developing core features, optimizing Bluetooth / WebRTC communication for IoT devices, fully integrating payment system wtih Stripe and implementing robust CI/CD pipelines for seamless deployment. I also actively engaged with users, offering customer support and enhancing user satisfaction.

After those 3.5 years at Kangaroo, I became hungry for new knowledge again. I took a couple of months to learn Flutter and ASO. That resulted in two apps called Wishpy & Fly. This experience introduced me to the Flutter world and the declarative framework, which I later used to learn Jetpack Compose. Both apps were quite complex and involved not only mobile development (both iOS and Android) but also backend development using Firebase, which I built entirely on my own (authentication, synchronization logic, phone address book, database).

Following my Flutter experience, I joined a crypto startup called Zapper. My motivation was to learn more about the crypto space, and Zapper seemed like an amazing product, so I decided to join. Here, I got to build an app entirely using Jetpack Compose. This opportunity not only expanded my knowledge of the crypto space but also deepened my understanding of the new Android framework. I gained attention to UI/UX details and learned from the fun and tight-knit culture that Zapper had created.

Currently, I’m building a portfolio of my own mobile and web apps. I actively share my endeavours on my Twitter.

When will I be a good fit?

You’re looking for someone who’s not only experienced but also deeply passionate about mobile software engineering. With over 8 years of dedicated experience in the field, I have honed my skills to create robust, user-friendly, and efficient applications. I bring an innovative mindset to every project, consistently seeking out opportunities to leverage the latest technologies to deliver exceptional results. I’m active and I frequently come up with different initiatives aiming to help the team and improve the overall product (ask me for details).

Furthermore, my track record of building successful apps from scratch, leading teams, and actively contributing to the tech community showcases my commitment to growth and excellence. With my extensive experience in remote work, I can seamlessly integrate into your distributed team and contribute meaningfully to your projects from any location.

What application have you worked on you’re proud of? Why are you proud of it?

One of the applications I’m particularly proud of is the Kangaroo app. This app was a significant challenge as it involved complex Bluetooth logic, camera streaming and integration with various components. I played a pivotal role in developing and maintaining this app, contributing to the crucial features.

Moreover, my involvement in customer support for the Kangaroo app was highly impactful. Users appreciated the direct interaction with an engineer, which led to positive feedback and improved user satisfaction. This hands-on approach demonstrated my dedication to customer-centric solutions and contributed to fostering a positive relationship between users and the app. My actions directly influenced the app user rating.
